Creating an email addressHow do I create an email address at my domain name?
The first step in creating a working email address for your site is to login to your cPanel (for Linux accounts) or Plesk (for Windows accounts) control panel. Your control panel provides you with the ability to create and modify email addresses at your domain name. Both cPanel and Plesk are very easy to work with and in the example below we use cPanel. Go into your cPanel control panel using the address, username, and password you received when you first registered for your hosting. Once successfully logged in you will see the screen below. Click on the "Mail" option towards the top of the page.
The screen you see next displays all of the options for working with email at your domain. To create an email select the "Add/Remove Accounts" link. The page displayed allows us to first decide the name of the email address. This is the name that figures just before the "@yourdomain.com" part of the email. This is usually a name like jim@jimscompany.com or a department like sales@jimscompany.com. We also need to enter a password for the email address. Remember to keep a record of the password to avoid not being able to login. If you do forget an email address password, there is an option to reset it. Finally we need to specify a "quota" for the account. The quota of an email address specifies how much disk space the email account is allowed to use. For example a company with a 50MB hosting plan, can allocate two email addresses with 4MB of space each, and would have 42MB of space left for more email addresses or web pages. The email address is setup! You now have the ability to setup your email client (eg. Outlook Express) and it will receive any email sent to that address. If you do not receive confirmation, but instead receive an error saying that you have allocated more quota than you have available, you need to clear some disk space. Either reduce the quota of other email accounts to free some room, delete some of the files on your webspace, or a combination of the two.
